Pipe Size, Schedule, SDR, PN & Material Grade Calculator
Engineering reference for steel, HDPE, PVC/uPVC, CPVC and pre-insulated piping, including dimensions, wall thickness, weight, water volume, fusion compatibility, corrosion-life estimation, insulation volume and field-joint calculations.
Quick Navigation
1. Steel Pipe Schedule, Weight & Water Volume
Use known OD and wall thickness for any project pipe. For standard NPS sizes, the reference selector below provides a practical dimensional lookup for common schedules. Final values must be verified against the applicable current standard and project specification.
Custom OD + Wall Thickness Calculator
2. HDPE / PE100 SDR Calculator
Calculate nominal wall thickness, inside diameter, internal water volume and approximate pipe mass from OD and SDR. Pressure class must be confirmed from the actual pipe standard, material designation, service temperature and manufacturer data.
3. PVC, uPVC & CPVC Engineering Reference
Metric SDR / PN Systems
PVC-U pressure systems commonly use metric OD with PN/SDR-based wall designations. uPVC means unplasticized PVC.
Schedule Systems
ASTM-based PVC pressure pipe may be specified by Schedule 40, Schedule 80 or SDR pressure-rating systems depending on the product standard.
Schedule / SDR
CPVC systems may use Schedule 40, Schedule 80 or SDR pressure-rated products. Temperature derating and manufacturer limits are especially important.
Plastic Pipe SDR Calculator
4. HDPE Electrofusion & Butt Fusion Compatibility Checker
This tool gives a screening result only. Final compatibility must follow the fitting manufacturer's approved SDR range, pipe compound requirements, fusion procedure and project specification.
5. Pre-Insulated Pipe Build-Up & PUF Volume Calculator
Estimate insulation envelope, outer casing requirement and PUF/PUR volume for district-cooling and chilled-water pre-insulated piping.
PUF / PUR Chemical Quantity Estimator
Use the actual supplier TDS mix ratio and recommended process density. Do not use the default values as a chemical specification.
Field Joint Material Estimator
6. Simplified Insulation Heat-Gain Calculator
Estimate conductive heat gain through cylindrical insulation. This is a simplified steady-state insulation-only calculation and does not model casing, soil, groundwater, convection films, joints or buried-system thermal interaction.
7. Steel Pipe Corrosion & Remaining-Life Estimator
Estimate remaining service life from verified wall-thickness measurements and a known or measured corrosion rate. Water chemistry inputs are used only as a qualitative risk indicator, not as a direct life prediction.
8. ASME, ASTM, API, EN & ISO Reference Guide

ASME
Commonly provides piping design/construction codes and component dimensional/rating standards.
ASTM
Commonly provides material/product specifications and test requirements used to purchase piping components.
API / EN / ISO
API focuses strongly on petroleum/pipeline applications, EN on European standards, and ISO on internationally adopted technical standards.
Common Engineering Questions
What is the difference between Schedule, SDR and PN?
Schedule is a wall-thickness designation used in several pipe dimensional systems. SDR is the ratio of OD to wall thickness. PN is a nominal pressure designation used in many metric piping systems and must be interpreted under the applicable material/product standard and reference temperature.
Can SDR11 electrofusion fittings be used on SDR17 pipe?
Potentially, but only when the exact electrofusion fitting manufacturer states that the fitting is approved for the pipe OD and SDR range. Same OD alone is not sufficient to confirm compatibility.
Can SDR11 and SDR17 HDPE pipe be butt fused directly?
Different SDRs mean different wall thicknesses. Direct butt fusion should therefore be checked against the pipe/fitting manufacturer's permitted wall-thickness mismatch and the approved fusion procedure. Do not assume universal compatibility.
How is pre-insulated pipe PUF quantity calculated?
The theoretical insulation volume is based on the annular volume between the carrier pipe OD and insulation/casing envelope, multiplied by insulated length. Finished foam density, actual chemical yield, mix ratio and field allowance must then be taken from the foam supplier's technical data.
Can pipe life be estimated from water pH?
No. pH is only one corrosion factor. Remaining-life estimation is more defensible when based on actual UT thickness, minimum allowable wall and a measured corrosion rate, supported by water chemistry and operating history.
